USGS Report about New England Gulch: Ref USGS Geological Bulletin #1355
Apparently, the placers on the mountain slope were very rich; one placer miner reportedly recovered 870 Ounces (!) in placer gold from New England Gulch (before 1872), a branch of Granite Creek about 4 miles south of Prescott.
There are also historical gold prospecting finds in the washes, tributaries, benches and tailings.
Water is a commodity in New England Gulch since it only flows about 4-5 months out of the year. The exciting thing is that Granite creek flows almost all year, its very possible a plan of operations can be established and the use of that water can be used to process the ground here in New England Gulch, the water is only about 100-200 feet from the claim and New England Gulch flows back into Granite Creek. We tested the hill sides and the center of the wash, we ran 3 buckets of material we found a minimum of 1 color per pan up to 18 colors per pan! One of the pictures above show the pieces we found in just 1 pan of material working here at New England Gulch.
Also additional information concerning finds in this area can be found in nugget hunting and gold prospecting forums.
